![]() ![]() In 1965, the Beatles began to explore new musical directions, and their albums Rubber Soul (1965) and Revolver (1966) are considered to be among the greatest albums of all time. ![]() As their popularity grew, the Beatles toured extensively and released albums such as Please Please Me (1963), With The Beatles (1963) and A Hard Day's Night (1964), all of which reached number one in the UK and the US. They gained popularity in the United Kingdom after their first single, "Love Me Do", became a top ten hit in 1962. The Beatles evolved from Lennon's previous group, the Quarrymen, and built their reputation playing clubs in Liverpool and Hamburg over three years from 1960, initially with Stuart Sutcliffe playing bass. As pioneers in recording, songwriting and artistic presentation, the Beatles revolutionised many aspects of the music industry and were often publicised as leaders of the era's youth and sociocultural movements. Rooted in skiffle, beat and 1950s rock and roll, their sound incorporated elements of classical music and traditional pop in innovative ways the band later explored music styles ranging from folk and Indian music to psychedelia and hard rock. ![]() The group, whose best-known line-up comprised John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, are regarded as the most influential band of all time.
